Darren Ferguson has worked wonders over the last twelve months at the Keepmoat Stadium, being able to guide Doncaster Rovers to an instant return to the third-tier.

The Yorkshire outfit were unable to be drifted away from the drop by Ferguson during the 2015/16 season and inevitably endured relegation to the bottom division, but the manager has been able to bring positivity back to the club.

As preparation ahead of the new League One season, Rovers will be keen to keep hold of their top talent such as John Marquis, whose been rumoured with a departure, but more important additions are needed if they don't want to endure the same fate as two years ago.

That is why the boss should invest some of his transfer budget into Conor Grant, currently contracted to Premier League side Everton but did spent much of last term on loan at the League Two club.

The 22-year-old was on loan at the Keepmoat for the second-half of the 2016/17 season and whilst Darren Ferguson labelled his second spell in the team as 'disappointing', I'm sure many Doncaster's faithful will welcome back the midfielder.

Grant was much more successful in his initial period at the club when the manager first took charge in 2015 and was a far superior figure in the squad compared to his most recent stint, but, like I said, he would be a satisfying acquisition this summer.

Doncaster Rovers also need to invest in the playing squad if they want to rediscover the heights of them being in the Championship.
