Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov has spoke out about the current issues with securing a deal for ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Bongani Khumalo, reports the Doncaster Free Press.

Khumalo is wanted by Doncaster but visa issues could stop any potential deal

The South African defender had a loan spell with Rovers back in the 2013/14 season before a bad knee injury sustained in March 2014 on international duty forced the player out of football for over a year.

The 28-year old will now struggle to retain his working visa after regulations say that a player must play a high percentage of international and league games to qualify for the visa.

With Khumalo sitting out a year of football and missing out on the South Africa side that he used to be a main feature for, the player may not be able to remain in the UK.

Speaking on his club's attempts to sign the South African defender, Dickov said; "It is looking unlikely that it will be sorted out but his representatives here and in South Africa are trying everything they can to get it sorted out.

"Bongs was fantastic for us, both on and off the pitch as a player and a person and he is definitely one that I would be interested in. I made the call to his agent at the end of the season because he finished the season strongly at Colchester but we were told the main problem was his visa.

"It's not just disappointing for me but also for him because he wants to stay in England and play football."

Khumalo has been released by Spurs after returning from a loan spell at Colchester United, where he played a part in their fight against relegation from League One towards the end of the season.
