Doncaster Rovers have made an enquiry into signing Tottenham Hotspur’s promising striker Jonathan Obika, according to the Doncaster Free Press.
Speaking to the newspaper, Rovers manager Paul Dickov admitted that he is a keen admirer of Obika and has looked into bringing him to the Keepmoat.
“Jonathan’s a player I’ve admired for a long time,” he said.
“I’ve watched him since he was 16-year-old at Tottenham and he’s a player I know a lot about.”
However, the former Oldham manager remained coy about any deal for the 20-year-old being completed:
“There have been preliminary discussions, but that’s about as far as it’s gone at the moment.”
Obika has been at Tottenham since 2006 when he joined as a trainee, but has only managed four senior appearances for Spurs and has been on loan at seven different Football League clubs.
The former England U20 international looks certain to leave White Hart Lane this summer and it is thought that Doncaster are interested in taking the player on loan with an option to buy as they look gain promotion back to the Championship.
