Don Goodman has stated that the off-field issues that Neil Warnock has had to go through will have had an impact on his management of Cardiff City.

Midway through last season, what was to be new Cardiff signing Emiliano Sala, suffered an awful tragedy as he passed away after a plane that was taking him to Wales crashed.

It was a terrible moment in the year, and it would have had serious implications on everyone who was working at Cardiff during the time that it happened.

Warnock has now stepped down as Cardiff manager, and Goodman believes that this specific off-field incident would have played a major part in his life and affected his job.

Speaking to the EFL Podcast, Goodman said: "It's a shame it ended that way for Warnock after the incredible job he did for Cardiff City.

"To go through some of the off-field-issues that Cardiff have suffered, such as the Emiliano Sala tragedy, it's bound to have an impact on you as a human being and on you as a football club.

"Despite making a strong fist of fighting for survival last season, I'm certain that incident had an effect."

The Verdict

I completely agree with Goodman, and think that it had an effect on a lot of lives in the footballing community. Warnock is a good manager and has been brilliant during his stint at Cardiff City.

It was an awful tragedy to happen, and it's good to see the club trying to move forward whilst still paying tributes to Sala.

Goodman is completely right in saying the incident would have had an effect on the manager, but hopefully, in the future, Cardiff's season will look much brighter although Neil Harris has a tough act to follow.
