Former West Brom striker, Don Goodman, has offered his insight on what has been a brilliant start to the season for Swansea City.

Steve Cooper's side beat Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, thanks to a late goal from the experienced Wayne Routledge.

It was a big game for the Swans, who challenged their promotion credentials against a very good Marcelo Bielsa side.

With the win, the Swans went to the top of the league and remained unbeaten heading into the international break.

They do have a tough September to come, where the supporters will learn a lot more about their Swansea side. The Swans will have two home fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Reading with an away game at fifth placed Bristol City sandwiched in-between.

Talking to the Official EFL Podcast, Goodman said: "It's quite magnificent, but they're not getting carried away. They're literally taking it one game at a time and Steve Cooper feels that they can improve as they haven't hit the heights that he feels they can. To come away to Elland Road and pick up three points is quite magnificent.

"Swansea are to be massively applauded for the start that they've made under Steve Cooper."

The Verdict

It was an excellent performance on Saturday, and one that would have surprised a few when looking at the Championship scores in the evening.

Cooper wil be delighted, but Goodman hits the nail on the head when he exclaims that the manager knows they can improve. That's the key to a good side, Cooper is continuously wanting his team to improve and that is the sign of a good manager.

It'll be interesting to see if they can keep up these levels of performances in the coming months, especially as they have a tough September. If they stay there or thereabouts and continue to improve then there is no reason as of yet why Cooper's side can't mount a promotion challenge.
