Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes that Sabri Lamouchi needs to find a way to help the team win games when they control possession.

The Reds have enjoyed a superb first season under the former Rennes chief and he has transformed the team from a mid-table side to one that is in contention for a top two finish.

However, Forest have missed the chance to close the gap on Leeds after a tough spell after picking up just two points from their past three games.

Surprisingly, two of those games were against Charlton and most recently QPR at the City Ground - fixtures they would've expected to win.

Yet, Lamouchi's men have struggled when they need to take the initiative and they didn't create clear cut chances against the R's, despite having more of the ball and the territory.

And, speaking to the Sky Sports EFL podcast, Goodman made it clear it's something they need to solve quickly if they have aspirations of automatic promotion.

"They will be frustrated that another game has gone by where they’ve had more of the ball than the opposition and not won. It’s a conundrum they’re going to have to solve very, very quickly."

The verdict

Forest fans feel they haven't been given enough praise in the media this season, which is probably true, but they can't really argue with Goodman's assessment here.

Lamouchi has created a very good team that are brilliant at soaking up pressure, staying organised and hitting the opposition on the break but they aren't a team that will cut you open time and time again.

Obviously, teams now know this so it's about adapting and doing something different and it's up to the boss to find a different formula for these type of games.
