Don Goodman has urged Chris Hughton to hit the ground running at Nottingham Forest to avoid early pressure to keep his job at the City Ground.

Hughton arrived at the City Ground a week ago, replacing Sabri Lamouchi at the helm after a dismal start to the 2020/21 campaign.

The 61-year-old becomes Forest's sixth permanent manager in four years, and he will be hoping to deliver promotion having been unable to achieve their goals under previous managerial regimes.

Hughton will know that he has to make an immediate impression at the City Ground, and get his new team to pick up as many points as possible in such a short period of time.

Forest sit 22nd in the Sky Bet Championship table having picked up zero points from their first four games, but there are still 126 points to play for, and a upturn in form could see them climb the table.

Speaking on the EFL Podcast, Goodman has urged Hughton to hit the ground running on Trentside, or he could face pressure from the board almost straight away.

He said: "You have to beware of it. When you go to a club like that it’s like Watford or before Frank Lampard went in at Chelsea.

"Certain clubs do it that way. Chris will know that if he loses the first five or six games he’s going to be in serious trouble because patience is a rare commodity in modern football.

"Chris will know time isn’t on his side, but he have faith he can hit the ground running."

The Verdict

I think Hughton knows what he's walked into at Forest.

They have such a large group of players at the club, and it will take time for the manager to properly get to grips with them and get them playing how he wants them to.

He is a very experienced manager, though, and he knows how to grind out results in the Championship. A win this weekend would change a lot of things around the club.
