Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has admitted that West Bromwich Albion need to embark on a winning run as soon as possible in order to keep their hopes of securing a top-six finish in the Championship on track.

The Baggies would have been aiming to launch a push for automatic promotion this season in the second-tier following their relegation from the top-flight last year.

However, despite producing some positive performances at this level, a lack of consistency has recently hindered West Brom's progress.

In their last 10 league games, the Baggies have only managed to accumulate 11 points as they have struggled for form.

West Brom lost further ground on current Championship leaders Fulham last weekend as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers.

Former Baggies striker Charlie Austin scored what turned out to be the winning goal for the R's in the closing stages of this fixture.

Following West Brom's latest setback, Goodman has insisted that the club will need to start to pick up positive results on a regular basis in order to avoid the risk of falling out of the play-off places.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports EFL Podcast about the Baggies, Goodman said: "Look, they need to find a winning run very, very quickly.

"The top two are getting away and actually, are they looking more over their shoulder now and worrying about whether they can stay in the top-six.

"If the run of form continues the way it is, that will be a concern for them."

The Verdict

Goodman's comments are spot-on as West Brom clearly need to step up to the mark if they are to remain in contention for promotion this season.

Unable to build upon their victories over Coventry City and Reading last month in their meetings with Barnsley, Derby County, Cardiff City and QPR, the Baggies are now seven points adrift of AFC Bournemouth who currently occupy second-place in the Championship standings.

When you consider that the likes of Huddersfield Town and Stoke City are within striking distance of West Brom, they could quite easily fall out of the play-off places if they continue to struggle.

Baggies boss Valerien Ismael will be determined to help his side secure a much-needed return to winning ways at this level when his side face Peterborough United at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
