Ipswich Town midfielder Lee Evans has admitted to the East Anglian Daily Times that it would be massive if the club could sign Christian Walton on a permanent deal.

The Brighton & Hove Albion loanee has excelled for much of the campaign since making his loan move to Portman Road and is now said to be a player that the Tractor Boys are trying to secure on a full time basis, having made a bid earlier this week.

Walton is a player that seemingly has no future at Brighton and it is now being feared by Town that the Seagulls could recall him before selling him elsewhere, hence the reason for the League One side making such a hasty offer for his services.

Now Evans has had his say on the potential transfer, as he stated the following recently on the prospect of Walton signing for the club:

"It would be massive because I think he's shown, in his short time here, just how good of a goalkeeper he is.

"We have other really good goalkeepers in Vaclav (Hladky) and Tomas (Holy) as well, but I'm sure the club will be doing everything they can to keep Christian at the club in January."

Walton has kept a total of three clean sheets for Town this season and has put in a string of inspiring performances alongside his teammates.

He has been loaned out several times by Brighton in the past, including to the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Luton Town.

The Verdict

Walton is a keeper that has really thrived at Portman Road and he is certainly an individual that has solved what was previously a problem position for them.

He seems very settled with the club at present, so therefore it is understandable that they want to keep him for longer than this season.

The shot stopper is still only 26 and is certainly moving more into his prime years after so many seasons out on loan.

Now is the time for him to finally leave Brighton and Ipswich will be feeling confident that he will choose to sign for them on a permanent basis.
