Erik Alonso’s takeover of Derby County is ‘officially off’, according to BBC Radio Derby.
Reports from The Athletic had claimed that the Spaniard was closing in on a deal to purchase the club from Mel Morris with Alonso being the focal point of an interested consortium.
However reports from the Daily Mail started to cast doubt over such a deal during the last week with a lack of contact from Alonso leading on from an inability to deposit a £35million holding escrow into an account as part of the deal.
Morris had been advised that he was ‘wasting his time’ with the deal, but supporters still held out hope that a takeover could go through.
Those hopes now appear to be dashed with BBC Radio Derby confirming that the takeover is off – much to the frustration and fury of the Derby County fans.
Can you name each of these 17 ex-Derby County players just by looking at these 3 clues?
The future of the club is far from certain at this point and with potential sanctions from the EFL hanging over them, questions will be asked about what is next for the club.
As you’d imagine, fans are far from happy at the latest development.
Here’s what a selection of them have had to say.
Where does that leave us ? Trawling for yet another bidder will take time and seriously hamper Rooney ‘s summer plans . He’s operating once again without any financial certainty .

We dodged a bullet there.
We're obviously still in a real mess, but Alonso scared me.
