Despite their average form down in League One, Charlton Athletic have been anything but that in the EFL Cup so far this season.

Indeed, the Addicks have reached the quarter-finals of the competition and have been handed a tremendously difficult, but equally exciting, away trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

Whilst the Addicks undoubtedly go into this one as underdogs, having defeated Premier League opposition at The Valley in Brighton and Hove Albion last month, they do carry a threat.

That being said, team selection for Dean Holden's side will be absolutely crucial if they are to pull off a shock upset.

Interestingly, Dean Holden was not in charge when the Addicks beat Brighton last month, so his team selection for this one could be interesting.

In the league in recent weeks, Charlton have opted for a back four and we think it could be a similar story once again at Old Trafford after back to back league wins.

With those wins, and the odd injury here or there, there doesn't appear to be much need to ring the changes ahead of Tuesday night's clash.

In goal then, Craig MacGillivray could start, with a defensive backline of Steven Sessegnon, Ryan Inniss, Lucas Ness and Sean Clare tasked with keeping Manchester United quiet.

The midfield could be crucial in doing that too, though, with George Dobson, Albie Morgan and Scott Fraser being deployed in the middle of the park.

That leaves an exciting looking attack, with Corey Blackett-Taylor on the left, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on the right and Miles Leaburn through the middle in our predicted line up.

Of course, eagle-eyed Addicks fans will notice the above warrants an unchanged line up from the club's 2-1 win over Lincoln on Saturday after noon, so it could well be that one or two do drop out with just a few days between that clash and Tuesday night's.
