Leeds United are set to rival several other sides from the top two tiers of English football for the signing of Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill, Sky Sports have reported.

Brownhill has made 132 appearances in all competitions for the Robins since joining from Preston in the summer of 2016, scoring 12 goals, and it appears his performances are starting to catch the eye of those elsewhere.

According to Sky Sports' Transfer Blog (07/06,9:56AM) Leeds, along with Championship rivals Derby and Premier League duo Brighton and Sheffield United, are interested in signing the 23-year-old.

The midfielder still has two years remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate, meaning it is unlikely The Robins will be willing to let him go cheaply in the summer, as they look to build for their own push towards the play-offs next season.

But would Brownhill be a good signing for Leeds?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinions.

Toby Wilding

"This could be a big signing for Leeds.

"Brownhill would help control the midfield well, but he is also capable of providing some crucial moments further up the pitch, so he could be a very useful option to Leeds.

"Beating two Premier League sides to his signature would also be big a statement of intent from Leeds."

Jacob Potter

"Do they really need him?

"There's no doubting that Brownhill is a good midfielder, but I think Leeds already have better options available to them.

"If he does arrive at Elland Road, then I think it's likely that we could see Kalvin Phillips potentially heading for the exit door."

Louie Chandler

"He could be the missing midfield link.

"Last season the Whites struggled badly for depth in midfield with far too much pressure piled onto Kalvin Phillips.

"Adam Forshaw was poor and Jamie Shackleton may not be ready so it would be a great signing."
