Aitor Karanka will be looking to have a major impact at Nottingham Forest next season, particularly after a disappointing start to life at the City Ground last year.

Forest stumbled to a mid-table finish under Karanka last year in the Sky Bet Championship, with the Spaniard struggling to make a huge impact following his arrival in January.

Plans are already taking shape ahead of the new season, with an announcement coming last night that Forest had swooped to sign Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves from Benfica, with the former arriving for a club-record fee.

Carvalho, 21, arrives on a five-year deal, whilst his teammate, also 21, has signed a season-long loan at the City Ground, with Forest having the option to make that move permanent.

The Portuguese duo both have Champions League experience, with Forest’s supporters delighted with their club’s double deal.
