Nottingham Forest are considering a summer transfer move for Burnley midfielder Dean Marney 'on a Bosman' free transfer, according to the today's print edition of the Daily Mirror (March 14th, page 51).

Would this be a good signing for Aitor Karanka's side?

Gary Hutchinson

I'm not sure Dean Marney is the sort of signing an ambitious Championship club should be making.

He's 34 and hasn't kicked a ball in anger since damaging his cruciate ligament in January 2017.

He's been a good professional, that much is for certain, but I'd be incredibly concerned about his injury and ability to bounce back at his age.

Chris Gallagher

Do they really need him?

Karanka brought in an experienced midfielder in Ben Watson in January and Jack Colback could extend his stay in the summer.

Marney has suffered badly with injuries over the years and at 34-years old they'll do well to get too many games out of him.

It seems a bit pointless.

Alfie Burns

You’ve certainly got to give Karanka credit, he has taken a young Forest side and is looking to add experienced heads in key positions.

Whether Marney is a player Forest need, I’m not so sure, but it is good to see that Karanka has a plan.

A short-term contract would be fairly low risk for the Reds.

George Dagless

Do Forest need him?

They've a lot of good central midfielders at the club at the moment and so this suggests to me some of them could be going.

Perhaps Jack Colback won't see his deal made permanent or Liam Bridcutt just isn't fancied by Karanka?

I can't imagine he'd come in without one going to be honest.
