Brentford forward Ollie Watkins has been the subject of transfer speculation this season, and could this youngster be the man who fills his boots should he leave Griffin Park?

Ollie Watkins is having his best season at Brentford this year.

The 23-year-old has netted 10 times already this season, equalling the tally that he managed at the club in his previous two seasons there.

A brace in the 3-1 win against QPR on Monday night capped what has been a fine October for Thomas Frank’s side, but with Watkins continuing to flourish under the Dane, the likelihood of a January move for the forward becomes all the more likely.

Sheffield United are said to be interested in Watkins and should he make the move up north, it’ll give another man the chance to be the top dog at Brentford.

That man could well be Bryan Mbeumo.

The French under-21 striker joined the club from Ligue 2 side Troyes in the summer, and got off the mark for his new club against Derby County in August, and has scored twice this month as he cements his spot in the Bees front-three.

Alongside Watkins and Said Benrahma, Mbeumo is part of arguably the Championship’s hottest attack right now - Brentford have scored nine goals in their last three games, seven of them coming from their attacking-trio.

At 20-years-old, the Frenchman’s footballing career is only just getting started.

He impressed in Ligue 2 last season with ten goals in the campaign, and that was enough for Frank to see the potential and make him a Brentford player.

He’s played in all but two of their league games this year, and is quickly adapting to the necessities of the English second-tier.

Should Watkins depart in January, expect Mbeumo to make the step-up for the club. His game will no doubt improve between now and January and by then, he could well be ready to start winning games for Frank.

They host Huddersfield at the weekend and will look to notch four-straight league wins for the first time since October 2015.

A win could see them into the top-six depending on other results, and Frank’s turnaround at Brentford would go from one strength to another.

For Mbeumo, he just needs to continue doing what he's doing. Fans are quickly warming to the youngster, and he could one day be the man who fires Brentford in the Premier League.
