Bristol City have a brilliant recent history of scouting relatively unknown strikers who go on to become top Championship talents.

Jonathan Kodjia, Tammy Abraham and Bobby Reid have all scored over 20 goals in a season in recent campaigns before going on to bigger things, winning the Robins' scouting team plenty of plaudits.

With that past success, however, comes pressure on the next recruits to recreate that success. For a while this season it looked as if Andreas Weimann may well be the next to flourish, scoring five goals in his first five games this season.

But the Austrian has failed to score since. Mo Eisa was signed in the summer from Cheltenham but has failed to kick on as well.

The next name to draw the eye is that of Famara Diedhiou.

The Senegalese striker has scored seven times this season, so far falling well short of his predecessors, but has shown glimpses that indicate he could be the man to make the step up.

But is he good enough to lead the line of a club gunning for the Championship play-offs?

Physically, he is exactly what is needed. Lee Johnson has for a long time preferred playing with a lone striker and the 6ft 2in striker fits that role perfectly.

He wins on average five aerial duels per game and averages just under three shots per game showing he has the confidence and awareness of his role to be a big success.

His problem comes in his technical ability.

A pass success of just under 60% shows his link-up play with his fellow attackers needs plenty of work as does his finishing. Scoring just seven times from an average of nearly three shots per game shows a clinical absence.

But then some of his goals have been top quality finishes, showing he is capable.

The 26-year-old can be frustrating, but with some intense coaching from Johnson and his team, could become the brutal striker needed to send the Robins up.
