Championship outfit Barnsley lost 4-0 to fellow Yorkshire side, League 1 club Rotherham United, as they concluded their pre-season preparations with a heavy defeat.

Four second half goals, a hat trick from Jamie Proctor, topped off by a strike by Keiffer Moore, put Paul Heckingbottom's side to the sword, finishing off their preparations for the new season in a poor manner.

Much of the talk around Oakwell this summer has concerned departures and the mood around the club will not exactly be lifted as Barnsley head to take on Bristol City on the opening weekend of the Championship season, next weekend, off the back of a thrashing in a derby match.

Barnsley fans were seemingly split in the aftermath of the match.

Some fans clearly feel that Heckingbottom is being let down by a board who sell off his best players and do not give him the money to reinvest - urging the board to change their approach or risk either the manager leaving or enduring a poor season.

Others feel that Heckingbottom should be getting more out of the players, offering up no excuses for such a heavy defeat to a team from the league below.
