Sunderland have announced that five players will leave the club when their contracts reach a conclusion at the end of June.

Alim Ozturk is one of those players, which will bring an end to a two-year stay at the Stadium of Light.

The Turkish defender signed for the club in the summer of 2018, and went on to make 45 appearances for the Black Cats, in what has been a frustrating few seasons for Sunderland.

Recent off-the-field events meant that Phil Parkinson's side were denied a top-six finish in League One, as the majority of clubs in the third tier agreed to curtail this year's campaign on a PPG (points per game) basis.

This has led to Sunderland being condemned to yet another season in League One, and it could be an interesting summer ahead, as Parkinson looks to make adjustments to his squad.

Plenty of Sunderland supporters were quick to respond to the announcement on Ozturk's departure.
