Phil Parkinson's dismal start to his reign at Sunderland continued, as they exited the FA Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Gillingham after extra time.

Brandon Hanlan's goal after 105 minutes proved to be the difference between the two sides on the night, which leaves the Sunderland supporters hugely frustrated with their lack of attacking intent.

Parkinson's side didn't manage to have a single shot on target during the whole game, which certainly makes for concerning reading for a team that will have ambitions of winning promotion back into the Championship this season.

But after this defeat, it means that the former Bolton boss has just two wins to his name since taking over from Jack Ross, who was relieved of his duties earlier this term.

Sunderland are next in action this weekend, when they take on Coventry City at the Stadium of Light, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Parkinson's men.

Plenty of Sunderland supporters made their feelings clear after their poor performance against Gillingham on Tuesday.
