Sheffield Wednesday were hammered 5-0 by Blackburn Rovers this afternoon and many Owls fans have suggested that manager Garry Monk is to blame.

Wednesday welcomed Blackburn to Hillsborough in a confident mood after Monk's men beat Yorkshire rivals Leeds United 2-0 at Elland Road last weekend.

However, things started poorly for the Owls as Lewis Holtby gave the visitors the lead after just 19 minutes and Massimo Luongo was sent off four minutes later.

A Cameron Dawson own goal and Holtby's second of the day put Wednesday three down at half time.

Monk tried to be proactive with his substitutions, replacing Sam Winnall with Atdhe Nuhiu in the 37th minute and then throwing on Tom Lees and Sam Hutchinson at the break.

However, things went from bad to worse in the second period. Rovers defender Darragh Lenihan scored a fabulous volley just three minutes after the restart and then Sam Gallagher capped off an impressive display by Tony Mowbray's side in added time–calmly lifting the ball past Dawson.

The result means Wednesday drop down into 10th in the Championship and will be a really worrying one given top scorer Steven Fletcher looks set to be absent for a while longer.
