Sheffield Wednesday were hammered 5-0 by Blackburn Rovers this afternoon and many Owls fans have suggested that manager Garry Monk is to blame.
Wednesday welcomed Blackburn to Hillsborough in a confident mood after Monk’s men beat Yorkshire rivals Leeds United 2-0 at Elland Road last weekend.
However, things started poorly for the Owls as Lewis Holtby gave the visitors the lead after just 19 minutes and Massimo Luongo was sent off four minutes later.
A Cameron Dawson own goal and Holtby’s second of the day put Wednesday three down at half time.
Monk tried to be proactive with his substitutions, replacing Sam Winnall with Atdhe Nuhiu in the 37th minute and then throwing on Tom Lees and Sam Hutchinson at the break.
However, things went from bad to worse in the second period. Rovers defender Darragh Lenihan scored a fabulous volley just three minutes after the restart and then Sam Gallagher capped off an impressive display by Tony Mowbray’s side in added time–calmly lifting the ball past Dawson.
The result means Wednesday drop down into 10th in the Championship and will be a really worrying one given top scorer Steven Fletcher looks set to be absent for a while longer.

After the game, plenty of Owls fans made it clear where they felt the blame lay, taking to Twitter to criticise Monk.

Monk surely has to hold his hands up and admit fault for that defeat. Tactically inept from the word go #swfc

Monk has to shoulder some of the blame. Easy to say now and after two back to back wins he probably thought sticking with same tactics was a good choice. But to set up with one up top when you're best striker is out and the three available have 7 goals between them… #SWFC

4-5-1 At home against a team who haven't won for 6 games , yes the players we have aren't up to it , but if you think Monk is the man to take us up , you're deluded, awful, awful tactics #swfc

I’ve been watching Wednesday for years now and that is the first worst performance I’ve seen ever no chances all game and we couldn’t even string two passes together and for monk the tactics were diabolical why the hell do u play 1 up front at home and even taking Winnall off

Utter disgrace how can you start with Winnal up front on his own at home sort it out Monk

Awful awful awful!
Forget the sending off. We were abysmal even before that! Not helped by a negative formation at home basically conceding that Blackburn are the better team despite being higher than them in the table. Needs to bin it off Monk, or he can be binned. #swfc

Monk has to carry can for today a shambles from team selection to tactics to attitude everything just appalling tbh. Winnall is complete dogshit never mind up front on his own & bannan basically playing centre half is just bizarre #swfc
