The deal to save Bury Football Club will not go through after C&N Sporting Risk revealed they are 'unable to proceed' with the takeover.

The issues the League One side have are well-documented and they had been given until 17:00 by the EFL to finalise a takeover, otherwise they would be expelled from the Football League.

And, it had been hoped that the analytical firm would finalise the deal before the deadline today.

However, an EFL statement confirmed that the prospective buyers would not be going through with the deal after a period of due diligence.

"The EFL Board has been informed that C&N Sporting Risk will no longer be pursuing their interest in Bury FC. The League announced at the weekend that it was working exclusively with the Club and C&N in an attempt to finalise a change of control at the Club. However, following a period of due diligence, C&N have opted not to progress matters.

"The League continues to be in discussions with Bury FC in advance of today’s 5pm deadline and will provide a further update as appropriate."

The Verdict

This is the news that Bury fans were dreading and it will be heartbreaking for them as it leaves them in a position now where expulsion from the league seems inevitable.

It's disgraceful that the club were put in this position in the first place and it's astonishing that this has happened.

You have to feel sorry for the fans in all of this and further developments should come in the next few hours.
