Derby will be without Craig Forsyth and Mason Bennett for lengthy periods after the pair went off in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Left-back Forsyth is sure to miss the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury, which will be a massive blow for the player and the club.

The 29-year-old had established himself as the first-choice left-back on the whole this season, featuring in 13 league games so far.

Meanwhile, forward Bennett is set to see a specialist after injuring his hamstring against Villa, which saw him go off after 50 minutes.

The East Midlands club confirmed the news on their website and manager Frank Lampard explained how the duo will be missed and pledged to help them as they get back to fitness.

"It’s incredibly disappointing news for both players. Craig and Mason have been important members of the squad this season and shown themselves to be fantastic professionals both on and off the pitch."

"They will have our full support, that goes without saying, right the way through their rehabilitation programmes."

The Rams, who are sixth in the league, are back in action after the international break when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Verdict

This is a massive blow for Derby as both players have proven themselves to be very useful options for the manager this season.

It's also hard for the pair, particularly Forsyth, as they are going to be out for a long time and it will be tough watching the side go for promotion.

However, these things happen in football and it's down to the others to step in to help the side.
