Dion Sanderson to Sheffield United: What do we know so far? Is it likely to happen?

Dion Sanderson may be one of the most in-demand players in England this summer and his transfer saga could last a while.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender starred for Sunderland in League One last season in a loan spell and because of those performances he is wanted by clubs higher up in the English footballing pyramid.

Obviously the Black Cats want him back on a permanent basis but their opening £1 million offer was turned down, as was a bid of an extra £500,000 by their closest rivals Newcastle United.

Where they may fail though Sheffield United could succeed, as according to Football Insider they are preparing an offer for the 21-year-old to try and bring him to Bramall Lane this summer.

Slavisa Jokanovic is looking to bolster his squad ahead of a potential Championship promotion push and with the departures of Kean Bryan and Phil Jagielka, the defence is somewhere that is lacking numbers.

The Serb has hinted at using a three centre-back formation as well, so the need for reinforcements there is key and let’s remember as well that Jack O’Connell is just returning from a serious knee injury which kept him out for the majority of last season.

When did Sheffield United last win the FA Cup?

So how likely are the Blades to sign him ahead of their transfer rivals?

There is a strong possibility that if they want him they will get him – Jokanovic will no doubt be backed by the United owners to mould the squad in his own vision and for around £2 million or perhaps a bit more than that, trying to do a deal for Sanderson seems like a no-brainer.

Despite having potential, it seems as though Wolves are willing to do a deal this summer to let him go and it just depends on who has the funds to make it happen and then it’s up to the player himself to figure out where he’s going to develop best.

Sanderson may feel as though he has unfinished business at Sunderland after last season but if he wants to play in the Premier League as soon as possible, then Bramall Lane may very well be the best destination for him.
