Dilan Markanday has taken to Twitter to share a message after sealing a permanent switch to Blackburn Rovers yesterday.

As confirmed by the club's official website, the winger has signed a three-and-a-year contract at Ewood Park after Rovers reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur.

Blackburn have the option to extend Markanday's stay by an additional 12 months.

Whilst Rovers have not disclosed the amount of money that they paid for the 20-year-old, a report from the Daily Mail has suggested that the club spent an initial fee of £500,000 which could rise to £1m depending on performance-based add-ons.

It is also understood that Tottenham have opted to insert a sell-on clause as part of this deal.

Although Markanday only managed to make one senior appearance for Spurs during his time at the club, he did demonstrate some real signs of promise at Under-23 level.

In the 14 games that he played for Tottenham's youth side in the Premier League 2 Division 1 this season, the winger managed to score 12 goals whilst he also chipped in with five assists.

After finalising his move to Blackburn, Markanday admitted on Twitter that he cannot wait to get started at the Championship club.

Markanday posted: "I'm very excited to be joining @rovers, a great club with so much history that I'm delighted to now be a part of.

"Can't wait to get started!"

The Verdict

This may turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Blackburn as Markanday has demonstrated at youth level that he is capable of providing an abundance of creativity.

Whereas it may take the winger some time to adapt to life in the Championship due to the fact that he has never played at this level before, there is no reason why he cannot eventually go on to thrive under the guidance of Tony Mowbray.

Having nurtured the development of Ben Brereton Diaz, Scott Wharton and Reda Khadra this season, Mowbray will fancy his chances of getting the very best out of Markanday.

With Blackburn set to face Hull City this evening, it will be intriguing to see whether Markanday is handed his debut at the MKM Stadium.
