Poyet moves to West Ham on free transfer

Diego Poyet has completed his move to West Ham United from Charlton Athletic after a compensation package was agreed for the 19-year-old.

The son of former Brighton manager Gus had joined the Hammers’ pre-season tour after terms had reportedly been agreed, but the transfer has now been officially confirmed.

He is Sam Allardyce’s fourth summer signing following the acquisitions of Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell.

Poyet only made his debut for the Addicks in January during the 2013/14 season, but impressive performances saw him make 20 league appearances as he helped them escape the threat of relegation.

He won the club’s player of the year award before his contract expired last week.

The 19-year-old has represented England at U17 level.
