There is certainly a feeling that Brentford’s performance so far in the Sky Bet Championship has deserved more points than the have gained, with Dean Smith’s side suffering some unlucky defeats during the early stage of the season.

Brentford have picked up nine points from their opening 11 fixtures, leaving them 19th in the table, just one point ahead of Birmingham City, who occupy the final place in the relegation zone.

Despite a worryingly low point tally, there have been a number of impressive performers at Griffin Park, most notably, Ollie Watkins, a summer arrival from League Two outfit, Exeter City.

Watkins has impressed for the Bees, adapting quickly to Championship football and proving why he was so in-demand during the summer.

The 21-year-old has five goals across all competitions, including four in the Championship, as well as adding one assist – proving he was ready to make the step out of League Two after a memorable year.

The forward scored 16 goals across all competitions for Exeter last season, adding an impressive 13 assists, as he took the Grecians to the brink of promotion.

A host of Championship clubs were reportedly interested in signing Watkins, and it came as a surprise that more Premier League clubs did not take much notice in the forward who had a direct involvement in 29 goals last season.

Watkins would certainly have suited the ‘West Ham way’ and his direct approach, pace and physicality would have undoubtedly got supporters at the Olympic Stadium on the edge of their seats.

With Watkins impressing at Griffin Park, West Ham United will certainly be taking notice across London, potentially regretting their decision to not take a chance on the talented 21-year-old.
