Rotherham United marked their first home match of the new season with a resounding 5-0 win over Southend United on Saturday afternoon.

A rampant Millers side was 4-0 up by half-time against the Essex outfit, with Kieffer Moore completing a hat trick with a goal in stoppage time, having netted two goals within a minute of each other earlier on in the half.

Joe Newell bagged the other first half strike, before Ryan Williams completed the scoring with a fifth just before the hour mark, as Phil Brown's Southend were blown away.

Speaking after the game, Rotherham boss Paul Warne said, "“I have been banging the drum about how I want to play. I want to play aggressive football and I thought in the first half we were excellent and virtually unstoppable."

Rotherham fans on Twitter reacted in predictably excited fashion, and there is nothing like an early season thrashing to get pulses racing for the season ahead.
