Leeds United's beleaguered keeper Felix Wiedwald is the subject of a move from Eintracht Frankfurt and things seem to be moving on swiftly.

Bild reported initially that there was interest and more recently a tweet from Frankfurt's official Twitter account and Sporting Director, Bruno Hubner, has indicated that they're hoping to take him back to Germany. He made 12 appearances for them between 2013 and 2015, before his move to Bremen.

The 28-year old was a summer arrival at Leeds from Werder Bremen, but he struggled all season, eventually losing his place in the side to teenager Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Fans were less than impressed with his weak displays and despite coming in as number one, he played just 26 league games.

The tweet, translated from German, quotes Hubner as saying: "It is correct that we are dealing with a return for Felix Wiedwald, but we can not announce anything yet as a fix and have to be patient."

Wiedwald played his last game for Leeds on March 2nd where they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Middlesbrough. Patrick Bamford smashed a hat trick to effectively end Wiedwald's ill-fated Leeds career.

The Verdict

It is best for all concerned that he seals a move back to Germany. Wiedwald isn't a bad keeper, but he isn't a great one either. With the porous Leeds defence in front of him, he looked awful. Fans will be looking to the future, bright and welcoming and sadly, Wiedwald is a relic of a past that will seem incredibly distant right now.
