‘Devastated’ – Key Bournemouth star sends worrying message following injury blow against Brentford

Bournemouth will be delighted that their hopes of securing promotion to the Premier League look stronger than ever.

After suffering relegation last term the club were hoping that this season they would be in a position to secure an immediate return to the top flight – something that seemed unlikely as their automatic promotion hopes faded.

However it seems that the Cherries are back on track.

A play-off clash with Brentford on Monday evening looked like a huge acid test to see if they were ready for life back in the fast lane and based on the 1-0 victory it seems that they passed with flying colours.

Bournemouth were dominant for long spell against Thomas Frank’s side with free-flowing attacking play being added to a robust defensive display that barely gave the Bees’ attack of Ivan Toney and Marcus Forss a sniff.

Jonathan Woodgate’s side were handed a blow, however, when club captain Steve Cook hobbled off the pitch with a suspected knee injury.

It remains to be seen how severe the knock will be for the 30-year-old, but Cook took to social media after the game to hail his teammates – even if he did admit that he was ‘devastated to be injured’.

Taking to Twitter, Cook said: “Devastated to be injured.

“Good to see the boys see the first leg through though. Far from finished but looking forward to Saturday.”

The verdict

Bournemouth will be praying that Steve Cook is fit for the weekend.

The defender is a huge player for the Cherries and it goes without saying that Jonathan Woodgate’s side are weaker without him in the team.

The South Coast club are in the ascendancy in the play-off hunt but they’ll need every ounce of leadership and and experience possible if they’re to conquer Brentford and find themselves in the play-off final.

Cook will be a massive part of that and Woodgate will be praying to have him involved.
