Marcus Browne has agreed to join Middlesbrough from West Ham on a four-year deal, Football Insider have reported.

It was recently revealed that 'Boro had entered into talks over a move for the winger, and after negotiations were successfully completed, Browne is now expected to sign a long term deal at the Riverside Stadium.

A West Ham academy graduate, Browne made just a single senior appearance for the Hammers, and is thought to be keen to move on in order to further his development by playing regular first-team football.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan in League One with Oxford United, where he scored nine goals and provided five assists in 44 appearances in all competitions to help Karl Robinson's side to a 12th place finish in English football's third tier.

Browne is set to become just the second signing of the summer for Middlesbrough, with goalkeeper Tomas Mejias rejoining the club from Cypriot side Omonia on a two-year deal earlier in the transfer window.

The Verdict

This will be a big relief for 'Boro.

With less than two weeks now until the transfer window closes, the lack of incomings meant that Jonathan Woodgate's squad was starting to look seriously thin on numbers heading into the new campaign.

'Boro fans will be hoping therefore that this impending arrival will kickstart a busy fortnight for the club, and bringing in an attacking midfielder such as Browne looks like a good place to start for a club who struggled for goals last season.

It feels as though some credit has to go to Browne himself here as well, with the 21-year-old giving up on a place in a Premier League side in order to go in search of more regular football for himself in the Championship.
