Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of Adama Traore in the next 48 hours, with the Middlesbrough winger to arrive at Molineux in a club-record deal.

According to Rob Dorsett from Sky Sports, Traore’s move is close to completion, with a medical to follow after personal terms edged closer to agreement.

Wolves will pay Boro an initial £10m for Traore’s service, but the fee could rise to over £20m, exceeding the winger’s release clause and smashing Wolves’ transfer record, which currently stands at just over £15m.

Traore was key to Boro’s promotion push in the Championship last season, with the ex-Aston Villa flyer scoring five goals and registering 10 assists.

His form during the second-half of the season, under Tony Pulis, was extremely impressive, but Boro’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League has led to interest intensifying.

Traore is currently sidelined with an injury, and without him on Saturday, Boro struggled to deal with Millwall on the opening day of the Championship season.

Pulis’ side trailed 2-0 to Millwall, but two late goals rescued a point, with Boro leaving the Den with a point following a 2-2 draw.

The Verdict

Traore’s departure felt like it would be inevitable this summer, with a deal now looking extremely close.

For Boro, in the end, they should get a very good fee for the winger, whilst a staggered payment takes away some of the risk for Wolves, who will be aware that Traore can be unpredictable.

However, last season, Traore proved plenty of his doubters wrong, and in the Premier League, he could be a real weapon to Wolves.
