Middlesbrough are said to have paid around £2m to West Ham to secure the loan signing of Jordan Hugill.

The powerful target man joined the Teesside outfit on a temporary deal for the remainder of the season to provide Tony Pulis with additional options up top.

And, the Northern Echo have revealed that Boro are paying £2m to get the player, who only joined the Hammers in January.

Hugill had enjoyed a fine start to last season at Preston, which prompted the Londoners to sign him for around £10m on deadline day in January.

However, things didn't really go to plan for the 26-year-old, who didn't get much game time at all.

With David Moyes leaving in the summer, it seemed inevitable that he would leave once Manuel Pellegrini was appointed.

And, that was the case, with Boro confirming a deal for the player this afternoon.

He is a much-needed arrival for Pulis, who had lost striker Patrick Bamford to Leeds last week in a deal that started around £7m.

The Verdict

This is a good signing for Boro and £2m is a decent enough fee to loan the player for the season.

It provides them with a fantastic option for the campaign, but they aren't committing to a massive contract or a fee.

Now, it's down to the Middlesbrough-born forward to show what he can do and there's sure to be a chance for making the deal permanent in the next two windows if it works out.
