Blackburn Rovers could look to sign two goalkeepers between now and the end of the summer transfer window, with Derby County stopper Scott Carson among those under consideration, The Lancashire Telegraph have reported.

Following the departure of David Raya to Brentford earlier in the summer, Canadian goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler - who has made just six league appearances for Rovers in his two seasons at Ewood Park - as the club's only senior stopper.

Recruiting a new 'keeper therefore appears to be something of a priority for the club in the lead up to the new season, with Carson emerging as a potential option for the club.

The former England international is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Derby, and it has been reported by the Daily Mirror's Transfer Blog (17/07, 13:33) that new Rams manager Phillip Cocu is looking to sell the 33-year-old in the current window.

If Rovers do sign Carson, he will be the second player they have bought from Derby this summer, with midfielder Bradley Johnson having already moved to Ewood Park on a two-year deal.

It seems however that Carson may not be the only option for Rovers in their search for a new number, with the club also expected to explore the overseas, Premier League loanee and younger 'keeper markets for new options, and could move for two goalkeepers before the window closes as a result.

The Verdict

I could see Carson being a good signing for Blackburn.

The former England international is evidently still good enough to compete at this level, and with Derby apparently willing to let him go this summer, it could make a deal more affordable for Rovers.

Given he has apparently fallen out of favour at Derby, and the fact that he would have a good chance of taking the number one spot were he to make the move to Ewood Park, you feel that Carson himself could also be tempted by a potential move to Blackburn.

The suggestion of bringing in a young 'keeper is also an interesting one, and it may not be a bad idea to bring in a young stopper to learn from someone with Carson's experience for a couple of years before stepping up in as first choice between the posts himself further down the line.
