Leeds United have reportedly held talks with Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara in recent days as Marcelo Bielsa looks to strengthen his side ahead of their long-awaited Premier League return.

Gazzetta Dello Sport reported the news on Saturday, via Sport Witness, stating that the Whites had already carried out 'some talks' with the player, although Roma will demand around €30 million for his services.

The Guinea international only made the move to the Stadio Olimpico a year ago, signing from Serie A rivals Napoli for around €20million, so Roma are keen not to make a loss on the player.

Quiz: Can you remember the score from each of these 12 Leeds United matches from the 2019/20 season?

The 23-year-old made 31 appearances in all competitions in Italy last season, scoring once and assisting once from his defensive midfield role, and he looks to be just the player Bielsa wants to bolster his midfield.

Due to injury and suspensions last season, centre-back Ben White was frequently tasked with stepping into midfield, with Kalvin Phillips shouldering a large amount of responsibility as well in that respect.

So it is no surprise to see the club on the prowl for a new midfield man.

The verdict

This looks like it could be a real coup for Leeds if they can pull it off - although they will have to be careful not to overspend.

€30million is a lot of money, especially in the current transfer window, and they will need to make sure they do not limit themselves when it comes to strengthening other areas.

Leeds are in real need of at least one new centre-back, a new left-back and a new striker, as well a midfielder.
