Hastings have revealed that young midfielder Adam Lovatt was the subject of a deadline day bid by League One Sunderland, but the move fell through due to time restraints.

In a post on their official club website, the Arrows revealed that Lovatt's medical could not be completed in time, which in turn meant the EFL could not rubber-stamp the transfer.

That meant the in-demand youngster remained on the south coast, for now.

In November he was the subject of intense speculation after he spent time on trial with Leeds United. He's also been linked with moves to the Premier League, with Brighton one of the clubs thought to be monitoring his progress.

The Hastings report also claims a number of clubs are still watching Lovatt and speculate that he may get his move into full time football as soon as the end of this season.

The 18-year-old is a box to box midfielder who seems set to have a bright future in the game.

The Verdict

That's the problem with deadline day, the mad rush causes things to break down.

Why, when the player is not in a chain, would the Black Cats wait until so late? It doesn't make any sense.

I can see Lovatt remaining in the south though, perhaps with Brighton or maybe Crystal Palace.
