Sky Sports EFL expert Gary Weaver has revealed that Liverpool scout Andy O’Brien has watched almost every one of Leeds United defender Ben White’s games this season.
White joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Brighton in the summer and has been integral to their success this term.
The 22-year-old was relatively unknown when he arrived at Elland Road in July, having spent last season with Newport County in League Two, and was given the mammoth task of replacing Pontus Jansson.
The central defender has stepped up superbly and become one of the best players in his position in the division – with the Sky Sports EFL podcast naming him in their Championship team of the season.
On the Sky Sports EFL podcast, Weaver revealed that the Anfield outfit had sent scout Andy O’Brien to almost every Leeds game this season to watch White and reiterated that they were among a number of big sides interested.
He said: “Andy O’Brien, who is a Liverpool scout, has watched almost every single game of Ben White’s. The big teams are interested.”
Before he can turn his attention to the Premier League, however, White’s focus will surely be ensuring he can help Leeds seal promotion back to the top flight this season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are top of the Championship with nine games remaining.
These 15 players have played for both Leeds United and Everton – True or false? Have a go now!
Reports and rumours have been circling about interest in White for the majority of the season but Weaver has confirmed that big sides, including the European champions Liverpool, are keen on him.
It is no surprise given the integral role he has played for the league leaders and the calmness and composure he has shown.
It is going to be very interesting to see if and where he moves in the summer.
