Sheffield Wednesday are demanding a transfer fee from Hannover 96 if the German outfit want to sign defender Julian Borner.
It has been known for some time that the Bundesliga II side want to bring in the 30-year-old defender, and it’s been suggested that he has already agreed terms on a three-year deal.
However, despite that, Yorkshire Live have revealed that Borner still has a year left on his contract at Hillsborough, so Wednesday have no intention of just letting Borner leave for nothing.
Therefore, the update confirms that negotiations are ongoing and no transfer appears to be imminent.
It still seems likely that the former Arminia Bielefeld will leave Wednesday, with the club looking to make changes to the squad as they prepare for life back in League One.
Darren Moore did use Borner regularly following his appointment though, so the left-footer would need to be replaced if he did leave. Wednesday’s situation right now is complicated by the off-field issues that have impacted the club over the past year or so.
What club do these 21 former Sheffield Wednesday players ply their trade at now?
Firstly, you have to say that Wednesday are right to ask for a fee for the player considering he is under contract, so this is normal.
You can also understand that Hannover are trying to take advantage of the Owls situation, and that’s going to be the case with many clubs interested in Wednesday players.
So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, but you would still expect Borner to leave ahead of the new season.
