Izzy Brown and Jamal Blackman have endured different afternoons whilst appearing for Leeds United’s under-23s.

Leeds’ fringe first-team players have been used in the 23s on a number of occasions this season, with Marcelo Bielsa happy for the likes of Blackman to get games under his belt with Carlos Corberan’s side.

Today, Brown made his first appearance in a Leeds shirt, with the Chelsea loanee stepping up his return from a long-term knee injury.

Joe Urquhart from the Yorkshire Evening Post has provided an update on Brown’s outing, claiming the 21-year-old looked “good enough” in his 45 minutes, also confirming that there appeared to be no setback.

However, there was a less encouraging update on Blackman, who was stretchered from the field with a painful looking leg injury.

The goalkeeper, also on loan from Chelsea, has found himself on the bench in the Championship this season, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell ever-present in Leeds’ 17 fixtures.

Blackman was hurt in a challenge with a Birmingham City striker, with Leeds now awaiting an update on the setback suffered by the on loan goalkeeper.

Bielsa’s first-team are back in action a week tomorrow, with Leeds welcoming Bristol City to Elland Road.

The Verdict

Firstly, it was great to see Brown back on the pitch, with the forward’s recovery taking a long time.

There’s no doubt that in time, Brown will have a great impact at Elland Road.

However, the update on Blackman is a worry and Leeds will be hoping the goalkeeper’s setback isn’t as serious as it looked.
