‘Destined for the very top’ – Many Sunderland fans react to one player’s performance in Burton win

Sunderland rounded off an excellent week with a comprehensive victory over rock-bottom Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Lee Johnson’s team thrashed Doncaster last Saturday before booking their place in a second EFL Trophy final in the space of three seasons by defeating Lincoln City on penalties in midweek.
And the Black Cats showed no signs of tiredness as they comfortably dispatched the Brewers to keep their place inside the top-six.
First-half goals from Grant Leadbitter and Lynden Gooch put the visitors in control before Charlie Wyke’s 23rd of the season in all competitions and sixth in three matches earned Johnson’s side three crucial points in their quest for automatic promotion.
Quiz: Did each of these 18 ex-Sunderland players ever score a goal at the Stadium of Light?
But whilst Sunderland were impressive in an attacking sense, the performance of on-loan Wolves Dion Sanderson certainly caught the eye of the Stadium of Light faithful, who’ve been reacting on Twitter to his display at the Pirelli Stadium.
Sanderson has started three of the Black Cats’ previous four matches in all competitions and is doing a stellar job in covering for the injured Jordan Willis and Bailey Wright.

.@SandowRs was simply brilliant yesterday.
This is the same player who Wolves nearly recalled because Parkinson wouldn’t play him, he has been our best defender lately!
Sanderson & McGeady have acted as new signings under Johnson.@RokerReport | #SAFChttps://t.co/YzVcqH92TR

Luke O’ Nien is actually a very competent centre back in this league in a 3. Thought him Sanderson and CMC were very good yesterday. #SAFC

He had a solid game today, can’t fault him over the last few games. Sanderson was the pick today, we need to get him signed up permanently

Dion Sanderson is a far too good for league one what a defender hopefully if we do go up we be able to get him back on another loan deal , wolves have a talent on there hands #safc

If we go up I'd hope we try and get Sanderson back on loan. He's destined for the very top imo. Has all the attributes to be an absolute top draw centre back. Wolves will want him playing Championship football next season. That is if hes not in their first team squad #safc

See a lot of people saying we should sign Sanderson. Personally, I would love that too! But he would cost a fortune imo. At least £20m and I couldn't honestly see Wolves wanting to let him go with him being solid and full of potential. #SAFC

Dion Sanderson has been absolutely brilliant this season for us, MOTM for me today. Need him to sign for us permanently or on loan again with an option to buy. Wolves have an absolute brilliant defender here and wouldn’t be surprised if he reacted first team. #SAFC #WWFC

Does anybody else think there is a valid comparison between Dion Sanderson and Jonny Evans, when he joined on loan in 2007? Two classy, composed defenders who added genuine quality to our back line. #SAFC 🔴⚪️

Sanderson is a serious talent, would love him to come back next season either on loan or on a permanent , which probably won’t happen as I’d be surprised if he isn’t around the wolves first team squad tbh, he is that good #SAFC
