While you feel West Brom would prefer a few more wins and a few less draws from their start to the Championship campaign, the fact they hold the last remaining unbeaten record after seven games of the season does feel like it deserves some form of credit.

Indeed, with three wins and four draws so far this season, the Baggies go into their clash at home to Huddersfield Town on Sunday sixth in the division, meaning they look set to be well in contention for a shot at promotion this season.

Having ultimately been so near yet so far from promotion last season in their first year back in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League, making sure they are in that mix again will have been just what was expected of new manager Slaven Bilic at the start of the current campaign.

That Bilic - only appointed midway through the summer - has done that is testament to his ability as a manager, particularly when you look at some of the players the Baggies have lost since the end of last season.

While much has been made of the departures of last season's prolific attacking duo of Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle, it seem to have been overlooked that Bilic no longer has the ability to call upon another one of the Baggies' key pairings from last season.

Following Craig Dawson's summer move to Watford, and the long-term injury suffered by Ahmed Hegazi, Bilic has been without the central defensive partnership that proved so effective for West Brom last season.

Now however, it seems as though West Brom are close to receiving one welcome boost with regards to one of those key men from last season, after it was revealed that Hegazi has returned to training ahead of his upcoming, much anticipated return to the Baggies' senior side.

But while the return of someone who had the such an influence on West Brom's push for promotion last season will on the whole be a welcome boost for the club, it will give Bilic one very big thing to think about.

In the absence of Hegazi and Dawson gone, the Croatian has turned to Kyle Bartley and summer signing Semi Ajayi to fill the gap left in the centre of the Baggies' backline, and the pair have performed admirably.

Considering that Ajayi has joined from a Rotherham side who suffered relegation after just a single year in the Championship last season, while Bartley found himself in and out of the Baggies side throughout the course of that campaign, that they have provided the foundation on which the club has built the last remaining unbeaten start to this year is testament to the ability and commitment they have shown thus far.

As a result, it should be rather difficult for Bilic to decide which one of the pair he has to drop in order to make space for Hegazi back in his side, something which it seems will be far from easy, given neither have given the Coratian a reason to take them out of the starting XI.

Indeed, it may even be the case that it is Hegazi who has to wait his turn to eventually force his way into the West Brom side upon his return to injury.

Whatever way Bilic plays this, it will clearly not be easy to come to his final decision, and it is inevitable that someone is going to be left disappointed by whatever that choice may be.

Even so, Bilic will surely be more grateful to have this be a difficult decision to have than not. Otherwise, you feel that all important start to the season, would not have been quite so promising.
