Tom Lawrence set the Championship alight with a series of scintillating performances that brought the young forward to the attentions of those within English football.

Having been deemed unworthy to make the grade at boyhood club Manchester United, the Welshman joined for an undisclosed fee in 2014.

Breaking into the first team at the King power proved difficult, and Leicester’s surge to an unexpected Premier League title in 2015 on the back of performances from midfield maestros Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante restricted Lawrence to loan spells with Blackburn and Cardiff.

However the player made his name in Suffolk last season, and transformed Ipswich from an extremely average side, to a distinctly average side.

In all seriousness, without Tom Lawrence lighting up Portman Road last season, Ipswich may have been engulfed in a relegation battle and Mick McCarthy would probably have been out of a job.

There is no chance of the 23 year old joining the Tractor Boys on a permanent basis, and the most likely destination is Premier League new boys Newcastle United.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for Fulham’s Tom Cairney, but with the Cottagers demanding a reported fee of £20 million to secure his signature, boss Rafa Benitez may look elsewhere in his search for a goalscoring midfielder.

Lawrence fits the bill perfectly, and with the player’s Leicester future looking increasingly uncertain, a move to Newcastle will be the perfect opportunity for the player to shine in the Premier League.
