Tyrese Campbell almost had a fairy-tale ending to his first Stoke City start on Tuesday night.

The son of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin, was handed his first start in Stoke colours in the FA Cup third-round replay against Shrewsbury Town at the Bet 365 Stadium.

New manager Nathan Jones had made several alterations to the team that were defeated at the weekend by Brentford, rotating his side for the visit of the League One outfit.

Campbell impressed playing 72 minutes before being substituted, and he took the chance afforded to him by Jones with both hands.

It took just 20 minutes for the 19-year-old to net his first goal for the Potters, and he doubled their lead, adding his second to register his first brace for the club on after 36 minutes.

His double salvo gave the hosts a commanding lead before a late collapse ended in a shock defeat and cup elimination.

But Campbell did enough to impress many in attendance, and surely Jones, too.

With that said, we asked a question to our team of FLW writers.

We asked if they felt whether Campbell could become a Stoke City mainstay after his FA Cup performance despite elimination against Shrewsbury on Tuesday night?

Here’s what they said…

Gary Hutchinson

“It’s possible. I suspect that Jones has him down as a fringe player, but performances mean a lot, and he turned one in last night.

“He’s a talented boy and given his upbringing at Manchester City; he’s surely got the ability needed in the Championship.

“If Jones does bring him through and he plays regularly, it’ll say a lot for the former Luton man’s trust in youth.”

George Dagless

“Possibly, it's hard to say.

“Nathan Jones will be looking for fresh options, and Campbell certainly is one.

“For me, though, he is probably a little raw and not ready just yet for a long-term stint.”

George Harbey

“I don’t see why he shouldn’t.

“He’s been on fire in the Potters’ youth ranks and proved his worth with an impressive brace on Tuesday night.

“He took his chance and grabbed it with both hands, and deserves a run of games in the league now.”

Jacob Potter

“He's got to be worth a punt surely!

“Campbell was a rare bright spark in a shocking display from Stoke in midweek, and what harm could it do to give the youngster a start?

“He could thrive under Nathan Jones and should definitely be given a run in the side in the near future. “
