Derby County
‘Deserves a proper go’ – Many Derby County fans react over latest report over managerial candidate

A number of Derby County supporters have been urging the Rams to give Wayne Rooney the job until the end of the season amid reports he will hold talks with the hierarchy over the permanent position next week.
Rooney has taken over in very challenging circumstances but since he was placed in sole charge of the first-team he has guided the Rams to a mini-revival. Derby’s impressive 2-0 win at home to Swansea City in midweek stretched their unbeaten run to six matches and left them well placed to move out of the relegation zone and look to push up the table.
The Rams have been taking their time over the selection of their next permanent manager. Rooney’s impact in the last few weeks has bought them the time to wait rather than have to rush an appointment to get results going in the right direction. The Englishman has made no secret of the fact he would like the managerial job on a full-time basis.

It is now being reported by The Telegraph that Rooney is set to take his case to the Derby board next week as he looks to convince them to hand him the reigns on a permanent deal. That means that he could potentially be named as their next permanent boss as early as next week if things go well for him.
Many Derby fans believe that would be the right decision given his impact, with some saying they had been proven wrong by Rooney and would now be fully on board with him taking over.
Here then, we take a look at some of the best reactions on social media…
I think we should at least give him a tracksuit top or trench coat with his initials on (and then give him the job full time).

Would be a farce if Rooney and McClaren were to be replaced now, got to give them the chance to build on their strong start. However, this is Derby, so no breath being held – there’s a proven track record of getting into a fight and punching ourselves in the face #DCFC #dcfcfans

Definitely, I was against it, because at the time it wasn’t working. But hey the way his team have played the last few weeks, I think he probably deserves a proper go at and even an opportunity to bring a few players in

Totally agree. I’m being proved wrong by WR so far. Thought it was too much for a rookie. We just need to stay free of injuries to key players.
