It was a frustrating start to the summer for Sunderland, but Simon Grayson is beginning to put his own stamp on things at the Stadium of Light and his squad is looking more prepared for the Sky Bet Championship season.

Jordan Pickford’s move to Everton will have disappointed Sunderland’s supporters, even though his departure was expected. And the loss of Vito Mannone to Reading left the Black Cats seriously short of options in the goalkeeping department.

However, Grayson has moved to strengthen his hand heading into next season, with Jason Steele arriving at the Stadium of Light from Blackburn Rovers.

Steele has agreed a four-year contract with Sunderland, and could face competition for the number one jersey from Robbin Ruiter, who is currently on trial with Grayson’s side.

Ruiter has played well in pre-season for Sunderland when handed an opportunity by Grayson, impressing the club’s supporters.

The Stadium of Light faithful have taken to social media, to call for Grayson to hand the goalkeeper a permanent contract…

Sunderland fans… Are you hoping to see Ruiter handed a permanent contract? Let us know your thoughts!
