‘Deserves a Championship club’ – Many Newport County fans react to Michael Flynn news

Published

on

Initial reports this morning claimed that Michael Flynn was likely to leave his role as Newport County boss after his side’s fixture this weekend, but the club have since announced that the manager will leave with immediate effect.

The manager has taken County to promotion battlers and has been extremely unlucky not to take them over the line and into the third tier. They’ve twice missed out at the final hurdle but for Flynn to get them so far has been a feat admired by all associated with the team.

However, after a fairly shaky start to the current campaign that has seen the club sink to 15th in the table after ten games, it appears that both club and boss have decided to part ways in search of a fresh start each. The club have been unable to string enough results together to push on and get back up towards the top of the league and after a loss to Barrow last week, it looks as though time has been called on his tenure.

The club's record league win is 8-0.

Fans though have been quick to commend the incredible work that Flynn has done at Newport.

Having kept them afloat, he then installed them as regular title and promotion contenders and despite the gaffer now parting ways with the League Two side, there are clearly no hard feelings between the two parties.

Many have praised his work ethic and achievements and even more are even suggesting his next role will be a lot higher than the fourth tier…

The overriding feeling for Newport County fans is one of sadness that such a talented manager has now departed the club but, if these tweets are anything to go by, it looks like he could be set for a job even higher up the football pyramid in the future.
