‘Deserved more’, ‘Gutted’ – Plenty of Swansea fans react to late FA Cup heartbreak

Swansea City came close to providing a real upset in the FA Cup yesterday, taking a remarkable 2-0 lead at the Liberty Stadium against Premier League leaders Manchester City.

They led through a Matt Grimes penalty and a stunning strike from Bersant Celina. He showed incredible fortitude to come back from his own penalty horror in midweek to turn in a solid performance.

The visitors asserted their dominance though with three second half goals, including an 88th minute winner from Sergio Aguero that was proven to be marginally offside.

Despite the defeat, Swansea did themselves proud and winger Wayne Routledge paid tribute to his teammates on social media after the game.

34-year-old Routledge played the full 90 minutes and said: “Just very proud of everyone and everything about Swansea tonight. The potential, effort and ideas are there, just takes time!”

There was certainly plenty for their fans to relish in the committed display, and perhaps plenty to lament as well. Had VAR been used, as it was in two of the other quarter final matches, then they could have earned at least a draw.

That was not lost on the Swans fans who replied to Routledge, with a mix of pride and disgust found amongst their comments.
