Derek Adams has confirmed that Bradford City do have the budget to bring in a free agent, although he stressed they would only move for the 'right' player.

The Bantams have had a mixed start to the season, winning three, drawing three and losing three of their first nine games, which has left them in a mid-table position ahead of their weekend fixture against Rochdale, who have an identical record.

With Adams' men expected to be pushing for promotion, it's clear they need to improve and it has been suggested that the boss could look to strengthen his squad outside of the window with the addition of an out-of-contract individual.

And, speaking to the club's media, the Scotsman gave an insight into the club's finances, as he revealed there is room to do a deal for a player after Ollie Crankshaw's exit.

"We have money on the budget again now, so there is the possibility of looking at free agents, but they have to be the right player. We have got to be careful, but I will not rule it out."

The verdict

There are certain areas of the Bradford squad that look weak, so it's encouraging for the fans that the club are still actively looking to strengthen.

However, as Adams says, they can't just sign players for the sake of it, and they need to make sure that if someone does arrive they will be an upgrade on what is already at the club.

So, it will be interesting to see if any moves are made in the coming weeks, although the immediate focus will be on the weekend game against Rochdale.
