Derby County boss Gary Rowett will be delighted with his summer transfer dealings, with a number of quality players coming into the squad to replace those that have departed for new ventures.

The early loss of Will Hughes, Tom Ince and Cyrus Christie allowed the former Birmingham boss to prepare replacements, and Rowett has arguably improved his squad following their exit.

Tom Huddlestone has come in to replace Hughes, with Ince replaced by exciting young Welshman Tom Lawrence, who lit up the division whilst on loan at Ipswich Town last season.

The defence has been bolstered by Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom, with Maikel Kieftenbeld joining on transfer deadline day from Birmingham to bolster the ranks in the middle of the park.

However, Derby’s signing of the summer could possibly have been achieved in the dying hours of the summer window, with the acquisition of Sheffield Wednesday striker, Sam Winnall.

The player was loaned to the Rams for the season, with playmaker Jacob Butterfield going the other way, and Rowett will be delighted to reunite with the forward, who he coached whilst boss of Burton Albion.

Winnall joined the Owls in January, but has been underutilised by Carlos Carvalhal, who failed to get the best out of the striker, who enjoyed prolific spells at Barnsley and Scunthorpe.

Goals were a problem for the Rams last year, scoring just 54 in 46 Championship games, and the acquisition of a forward with such a impressive track-record is hoped to improve upon this less than impressive figure.

Darren Bent is injured, with David Nugent struggling to find consistent form, but the return of Chris Martin is hoped to also add goals to the side.

If Rowett is brave and plays Winnall in a front two with Martin, then the pair could form one of the most lethal partnerships in the division this season.

Winnall will excel at Pride Park, proving to Carvalhal that he was wrong to ever let him go.

How many goals do you think Winnall can strike this season?
