Craig Bryson signs new Derby County deal

Derby midfielder Craig Bryson has signed a new five-year contract with the Championship side, which was announced via the football league website.

The Scotland international only signed a three-year deal 12 months ago but the 27 year-old was attracting attention from promoted sides Queens Park Rangers and Burnley, who had a bid in the region of £750,000 rejected last month.

Bryson was a key member of the Derby side last season, scoring 16 goals in 49 appearances, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 demolition of local rivals Nottingham Forest at the iPro Stadium.

Rams boss Steve McLaren said: “He was an integral part of that we achieved last season and he will be a vital member of the side in the future.

“At the end of last season I sat down with our president and chief executive, Sam Rush, and asked him to do his best to retain the core members of the squad, and I am delighted that has been the case.”

Bryson is the fifth player to commit his future to the beaten play-off finalists with defenders Craig Forsyth and Jake Buxton committing their futures to the club along with midfielders Jeff Hendrick and England under-21 international Will Hughes.
