Derby County are to unlock the potential of new signing Alban Bunjaku as early as possible according to head coach Steve McClaren, reports the Derby Telegraph.

Bunjaku, 20, signed for the Rams on a free transfer, putting pen to paper on a two year contract.

The former Arsenal and Sevilla attacking midfielder will be part of the under 21 set up next season and is to provide competition for the first team.

Derby’s head of football operations Chris Evans said ”Following a successful trial with the club, we are delighted to welcome Alban on board. He fits the criteria for the type of player we want to bring in for the development group.”

”Alban had had a good grounding across Europe, having developed at both Arsenal and Sevilla. He will benefit immensely from working on the training ground in the coming months with Steve McClaren with a vie to nurturing his early potential.” he added.

Before joining Derby this week, he joined Arsenal at the age of eight. He scored 15 goals in 23 starts for the under 18 side for the Gunners before being sold to Spanish side Sevilla in a bid to further his development. In 2013, he had a trial at Czech side Sparta Prague.
